PIGS IN BLANKETS

In the UK, Pigs in Blankets (Chipolata Sausages wrapped in Bacon) are a traditional accompaniment for the festive season; a much loved side dish served at the Christmas dinner table.

The British pigs in a blankets though, should not be confused with those served in the U.S. In the UK they are small chipolata sausages wrapped in streaky bacon, not the pastry-wrapped sausages served in the US.

In Scotland they are apparently called Kilted Sausages or Kilted Soldiers.

Whilst researching the origin of the expression “Pigs in Blankets” I stumbled upon The Urban Dictionary’s take on it….. You may like to take a look for yourself 😉

Of course, pigs in blankets can be enjoyed at any time of year, they are great for filling lunch boxes, wonderful for picnics, or just as a snack when you are on the go.
