ZUCCHINI BUN HAMBURGER

Do Hamburgers actually come from Hamburg?

And Frankfurters from Frankfurt?

And French Fries from France?

And why are Hamburgers called Hamburgers when they are made of beef?

Anyway… these are made with pork and NOT sandwiched between bread… So I suppose they’re not Hamburgers after all…

Ingredients

  • 8 slices of a fat Zucchini 1cm Thick

  • 250 g minced Pork 15% Fat

  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder

  • 1 tsp Onion Powder

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce

  • 1 tbsp Homemade Ketchup

  • 1 tbsp Homemade Mayonnaise

  • Salad leaves

  • Tomato slices

  • Salt & Pepper

  • Oil (I used my own garlic infused oil)

Method

  • Sprinkle salt on each side of the zucchini slices (to remove some of the excess moisture) and leave on a rack.
  • Put the pork, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper in a bowl. Mix all together with your hands until combined.
  • Form 4 Hamburgers, slightly larger than the diameter of the zucchini slices with your hands, and press a slight indentation in the middle. This will keep the burger even-shaped when cooking.
  • Fry in hot oil for circa 2 Minutes each side.
  • Set aside and keep warm.
  • Dry off the zucchini slices, brush with garlic oil, and fry in a griddle pan for ca. 4 minutes each side.
  • Build your hamburger:

  • Hamburger

  • Salad leaf
  • Ketchup
  • Mayonnaise
  • Zucchini slice
  • Secure with a toothpick
